Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM all belong to the FCA family, which explains why many assume that Chrysler is owned by the Dodge parent company. Here’s the kicker: No, Chrysler is NOT Dodge. Although they are manufactured by the same automaker, they are two separate product lines. More details will be revealed below!

Who Owns Chrysler Now? Who Makes Dodge Cars?

As of 2025, both Chrysler and Dodge now belong to Stellantis, which was established after FCA merged with PSA in 2021, according to Reuters. However, the two brands were initially owned by different parent companies.

Originally, Chrysler was part of the Chrysler Corporation and was then merged with Daimler-Benz to become DaimlerChrysler (1998-2007). From 2007 to 2014, the company went by the name Chrysler LLC, transitioning to Chrysler Group LLC thereafter. After being acquired by FCA in 2014, it operated as an FCA subsidiary.

On the other hand, Dodge started off as Dodge Brothers Motor Company by the Dodge brothers. However, the brand was bought out by Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 and then Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Since then, Dodge has been associated with Chrysler, sharing the same development history that went through several acquisitions and mergers.

In fact, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM were all manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, or FCA, as we commonly know. However, this Italian-American automaker decided to merge with the French automaker PSA in 2019. It was not until 2021 that the two manufacturers came to an agreement on the merger, which finally became Stellantis. Therefore, both Chrysler and Dodge now belong to the parent company of Stellantis.

Don’t Mistake The Two!

Their shared parent company confuses many folks about Dodge and Chrysler. That said, these two brands, or two product lines, to be exact, cater to different segments.

Chrysler vehicles are built with family use in mind, with some popular models like:

  • Chrysler Pacifica: This award-winning minivan comes standard with numerous advanced safety features and convenient add-ons for family trips.
  • Chrysler 300: This is a reliable sedan for commuting and everyday driving for families.
  • Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid: Environment-conscious families or those on a budget can consider these hybrids. They cut down on fuel cost and emissions without sacrificing their family-oriented features.

Meanwhile, Dodge’s legacy for American muscle cars lived on, despite many acquisitions and mergers. Some notable models include:

  • Dodge Charger: These models offer improved performance, pumping out plenty of energy and horsepower.
  • Dodge Durango: This is a cross between an SUV and a muscle car, offering comfort, space, and power.
  • Dodge Challenger: This is another speedy muscle car with classic aesthetics and aggressive styling.
