If you’ve seen “Dodge RAM” and “RAM” pick-up trucks and are confused between these names, you’re not alone! However, the answer to whether Dodge owns RAM or they are the same company isn’t as simple as a yes or a no. We’ll explain in detail right below!

Who Owns The RAM Truck Brand? Who Owns Dodge Now?

As of 2025, both RAM and Dodge’s parent company is Stellantis, formerly known as FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). In the past, RAM used to operate under the Dodge name. In 1928, Chrysler Group acquired Dodge and continued the RAM lineup. By this time, these pick-up trucks were still labeled as “Dodge RAM.”

It was not until 2009 that the Chrysler parent company decided to produce RAM as a standalone lineup, dropping the “Dodge” from its brand name. From then on, RAM was no longer linked to Dodge, despite having the same parent company. In 2014, the Chrysler Corporation was bought out by FCA, which then merged with the PSA Group to form Stellantis in 2019.

To sum up, Dodge and RAM are now two separate brands owned by the same parent company, Stellantis.

When Did RAM Split From Dodge?

As mentioned, in 2009, its then-parent company, Chrysler Group, split the “Dodge RAM” lineup into two different brands – Dodge and RAM. So, if you own a pick-up truck that was manufactured before 2009, it still has the “Dodge RAM” label on it. However, on post-2009 RAM models, you can only spot the “RAM.”

This was a strategic separation so that each brand could focus on its specialized automobiles, catering to different segments. Dodge leans toward sports, muscle cars, and SUVs that deliver great power and outstanding performance. Some popular models include Dodge Challenger, Durango SUVs, and Charger muscle cars. Meanwhile, RAM is renowned for its powerful, high-capacity truck models with robust engines, solid builds, and advanced features.
